Tattoo Voodoo Review

THE WEAZELS - TATTOO VOODOO - 2007

The first thing you notice is the rawness, and for well over half of this disc it works. Still what remains is a pure rock n roll freak out. So gut drenching untamed and rough, it sounds like you've stepped into an out of control rock n roll meltdown.

We'll fast forward, and come back later to the priors, to the third cut on the disc, Crazy - it's the big riff about the bitch from hell, and we ALL know it! A classic rock n roller if there is one....it has similar blood as the rockabilly coup de grace that opens the disc - Christmas Morning -, big riffs leads and punch. Overall, concerning punch, The Weazels succeeded in a good clean recording of the raw goods, but the disc is mastered quiet, which is good for those who like loud clean recordings. All the music sounds great with good use of effects and frequency division seperated well in most instances, a few spots of off-phase stuff, but that's the norm for lots of indie stuff, no way around it, you just get it and go sometimes.

The Weazels have stuff like 'Smokin' and Drinkin", another timeless lifestyle classic. The jam is hot and heavy right in line with the bottom end as they tear through Trigger. When The Weazels stay with the big beat boogie woogie, they can't go wrong. When they get it right you can feel it.
